Non Astringent: This variety of persimmon can be eaten when it is still firm and crisp.
Fast growing, fast producer is one of the benefits of our Jiro Persimmon. As persimmons go, some selections are seed born, meaning they are sown and sold as a named variety and may not produce pure Fuyu fruit or any at all, while others (like we offer) are carefully drafted on very hardy root stock for hardiness and consistency. Our tree can often produce fruit in the 1st or 2nd year. Look for only confirmed grafted trees. Being non-astringent, meaning the does not have to completely ripen on the tree before harvesting. It is good to eat hard or soft and is one of the sweetest Persimmons on the market. A true valuable asset to have. A mature Fuyu tree can produce over 300 pounds of fruit a year and the fruit can be keep in a cool place for many months.
Care:
Fuyu is disease resistant, pest resistant, and will tolerate many different types of soils. Hardy from zones 7-11 outdoors and 3-11 indoors make this a very attractive tree for in or out of doors. Self-pollinating, so one tree will bear a lot of fruit, but the more trees that are planted, the more fruit will be produced. Once established Fuyu is very drought tolerant and will only need a good yearly fertilizer like SR-18-5-10 slow release fertilizer we use everyday in our nursery.
