General Care:

Growing Kimono™ Red Reblooming Hydrangea is a joyous experience, thanks to its easy-to-follow care requirements. Here are some essential tips to ensure your shrub thrives:

Planting:

Choose a location with well-draining soil and partial shade, though it can tolerate full sun in cooler climates. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly shallower than its depth. Gently loosen the roots before placing the shrub in the hole, backfilling with soil and watering thoroughly.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during periods of drought. Deep, infrequent watering is preferable to frequent shallow watering, as it encourages healthy root development. Mulching around the base of the hydrangea helps retain moisture and suppresses weeds. Use our MOISTURE MAXX non-ionic wetting agent all year or during times of drought for extended help keeping your plants well hydrated for up to 40 days.

Mulching:

Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or compost, around the base of the shrub. Mulching helps regulate soil temperature, retain moisture, and suppress weeds. Be sure to leave a small gap between the mulch and the stems to prevent rot.

Pruning:

Pruning Kimono™ Red Reblooming Hydrangea is minimal but can be done to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Deadheading spent blooms promotes continuous flowering, while removing any dead or damaged wood keeps the plant healthy. Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.

Fertilizing:

Feed your Kimono™ Red Reblooming Hydrangea in early spring with a balanced fertilizer SR-18-5-10 slow release fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for application rates and frequency to avoid over-fertilizing.

Purchase our Slow Release fertilizer here SR-18-5-10.
