Looking for a middle to late summer bloomer to "WOW" the neighbors? Say hello to Hydrangea ‘Fire Light' panicle Hydrangea! It’s a sun-loving hydrangea that grows to 6-8' tall and wide. ‘Fire Light’ has all the easy grow attributes of the favorite ‘Limelight’, but is a mid-sized grower. The most stunning feature of this special hydrangea is the color! Fasinating blooms range from 12-16" in size start out white with inflorescence mature to an unbelievable pinkish red as temperatures cool in later summer and fall. Like other larger panicle hydrangea ‘Fire Light’ requires just one winter or early spring pruning to set the stage for next season’s blooms. Hydrangea will tell you if they are thirsty by wilting so give ‘Fire Light’ consistent water. For a blooming hedge, plant them 5-6 feet apart. Watch for slowing traffic when you plant these beauties in your landscape.
Don't be afraid of the large specs 'Fire Light' boast, it responds really well to pruning and can be kept to a more compact shape, 3-4' tall and wide if desired. Remember that piniculata Hydrangeas bloom from the new wood (new growth), so prune away to encourge new stems and flowers. With more stems brings forth more flowers, which is the main goal of these fantastic Hydrangea. 'Fire Light’ can thrive in a container given even moisture and is an exciting cut flower choice. We haven't tried this yet, but is tempting to give it a try.
With the newest trends of piniculata hydrangeas coming to market, it is a great advatange over the macrophylla types that need shade to survive. 'Fire Light' Hydrangea needs to be the next one that you try after Limelight. Demand is high for these varieties, and they usually sell out before the summer blooming season.
