We offer a variety of miscanthus grass for sale, including the evergreen miscanthus gracillimus maiden grass. This regal perennial, also known as the maiden grass gracillimus miscanthus sinensis, will invigorate your outdoor space with its tantalizing textures and captivating color palette.

Developed by German breeder Klaus Menzel, “Fire Dragon” Maiden Grass is a thin-leafed ornamental grass that grows green in the spring and transforms to vibrant reds and oranges in the fall, a distinct quality that gives this fiery-colored grass its name. This cascading grass grows in a mound and reaches 6-7 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. Beginning in late summer and lasting throughout the fall, the grass is topped with white seed heads that bloom into silvery-white plumes that gleam brilliantly against the radiant reds and oranges of the grass. The plumes and grass shift and sway in the wind, creating movement and a soft rustling to enjoy in the garden. These plumes grow on rigid stems that help keep them upright, so they are great in a fresh or dried floral arrangement, or the plumes can be left to attract birds.

“Fire Dragon” Maiden Grass is very low maintenance and thrives in full sun. It grows in zones 4-9 and adapts well to most soil types. It is very resilient against drought and salt and resists deer, pests, and disease as well. These tall grass mounds make wonderful natural privacy screens, and they grow quickly once established. They are perennial, so they can be trimmed a few inches from the ground early each spring, before new growth begins, to allow for fresh growth year after year. This grass’s intensity of color as well as its silvery plumage dancing in the breeze will add intrigue to any garden or border.
