Crazy-Twisted Thriller Plant
If you’re looking for a unique-wild looking plant for the patio container or interiorscapes Juncus ‘Spiralis’ is an interesting choice. An easy to grow ornamental with the most interesting twisted stems. ‘Spiralis’ has no leaves, but the stems are attractive, corkscrew type that range from upright to prostrate, cylindrical, green and smooth. A clumping habit, this plant will grow in standing water (up to 1-5” over the plant crown) and will tolerate most out-of- water soils. Sun loving, this selection will bloom in late summer with yellow-green flowers, followed by small fruit.
Applications
Excellent water plant. Ponds, garden pools, and wetland enhancement are the primary uses for this unusual plant. It thrives and performs well as a patio plant, usually in a 10” pot or larger which can be brought indoors in the winter if desired. See our list of companion plants for potting ideas.
Care
If you’re an over-waterer, Juncus ‘Spiralis’ will be your best friend. As stated above it will thrive in the wettest of conditions, so you may not be able to over-water this plant! For best results, do not let this plant completely dry out..
