Stunning Native Wisteria's Repeat Blooming Up to 3 Time a Year!
With bright green leaves and thick mounds of lavender flowers hanging from racemes like bunches of grapes along its twisting vines, Amethyst Falls American Wisteria is a beautiful plant to use as a climber along fences, arbors, and more. It is slower growing than its Asian counterparts, but still reaches up to 20 feet in length in a single season, so it will grow and fill in nicely while still giving you enough time to train it to grow the way you would like it to. It can also be trained to grow as a tree for a beautiful stand-alone feature that forms a weeping willow style of waterfalling leaves and flowers each spring.
The Wisteria’s fragrant blooms attract butterflies and hummingbirds, and it is deer resistant. This plant needs support and training as it grows. It loves full to partial sun and has average water needs. Watering it whenever the top two inches of soil is dry will help this plant flourish. It grows a brown, velvety ornamental bean-like seed pod that dry to a leathery texture. These pods should not be consumed and trimming back the spent flowers may help prevent the seed pods from forming if there are concerns that pet may eat them.
The wisteria’s flowers bloom on new wood in the late spring, with a lighter repeat blooming in the summer. This means that it can be trimmed back as needed each winter without affecting the flower production the following spring. The Amethyst Falls American Wisteria can also be grown in a container, and it will climb along any fence or trellis to provide privacy and beauty to any area.
