In general, daylilies can survive most harsh environments that other plants cannot, including urban pollution, slopes, and poor soil conditions. It is also salt tolerant, making it ideal for coastal regions as well as near city roads and sidewalks that get winter ice protection.
Planting Tips:
When planting Hemerocallis 'Tiger Swirl', choose a location that receives ample sunlight to ensure optimal blooming. Ensure the soil is well-drained, as these plants prefer not to sit in water. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and place the plant at the same level as it was in the pot. Backfill the hole with soil and gently pat it down around the plant to remove air pockets.
Watering:
Daylilies are relatively low-maintenance when it comes to watering. While they can tolerate dry conditions, they prefer consistently moist soil, especially during periods of active growth and flowering. Water deeply, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent waterlogged roots. Use our MOISTURE MAXX non-ionic wetting agent all year or during times of drought for extended help keeping your plants well hydrated for up to 40 days.
Mulching:
Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of 'Tiger Swirl' can help conserve soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the stems to prevent rot and fungal issues.
Pruning:
Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering throughout the growing season. Additionally, remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain the plant's overall health and appearance. Trim back the foliage in late fall or early spring to tidy up the plant and promote new growth.
Fertilizing Guidelines:
Feed your Hemerocallis 'Tiger Swirl' with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer HI-COTE 360 in early spring as new growth emerges. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates, as over-fertilizing can lead to lush foliage at the expense of blooms. A second application in midsummer can help sustain flowering and promote overall vigor.
