Sedum 'Back in Black' PP33632 CPBRAF Rock 'N Grow ® Collection

The 'Back in Black' realm of Sedum is yours to explore. This captivating perennial, from the ROCK 'N GROW® Collection, is sure to be a show-stopper in any garden that values striking contrasts and low-maintenance beauty. Learn all about this sedum's special traits and maintenance recommendations to make it a focal point in your garden. With its dark, nearly black, leaves, Sedum 'Back in Black' has visually arresting foliage. By contrasting sharply with nearby plants, this deep shade sets a dramatic tone for the garden. In late summer to early fall, 'Back in Black' not only has dark foliage but also clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. As they open their delicate petals, these flowers bring a lovely shade of rosy pink to the arrangement.

General Care:

Planting

When planting Sedum 'Back in Black', select a location with well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade. Ensure proper spacing to accommodate its mature size, allowing for good air circulation between plants.

Watering

While sedums are known for their drought tolerance, newly planted specimens will benefit from regular watering until established. Once established, 'Back in Black' is relatively low-maintenance and only requires occasional watering during dry spells.

Mulching

Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant can help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. However, take care not to mulch too heavily, as sedums prefer slightly lean soil conditions.

Pruning

Sedum 'Back in Black' generally requires minimal pruning. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage continued blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. Additionally, trim back any damaged or leggy growth in early spring to promote healthy, vigorous growth.

Fertilizing

This sedum is not particularly demanding when it comes to fertilizing. A light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring is usually sufficient to support its growth and flowering.
