General Care:

Planting Instructions:

Select a suitable spot with soil that drains well and receives ample sunlight, either full or partial. The Private Jet™ Arborvitae thrives in sunny conditions, although it can also handle some shade if necessary.
When planting, it's important to create a hole that is double the width of the root ball and just a bit shallower than its depth. Carefully extract the shrub from its container, being mindful of the delicate roots.
Someone who loves gardening, regardless of their age, can find joy and fulfillment in tending to their plants and flowers. It's a wonderful hobby that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Position the shrub in the middle of the hole, making sure that the top of the root ball is even with the surrounding soil.
As a lover of gardens, there is no age limit to the joy and passion that can be found in cultivating and nurturing plants. Whether you are in your early twenties or well into your eighties, the beauty and tranquility of a garden can bring immense pleasure and fulfillment. It Carefully fill the hole with soil, ensuring that there are no air pockets.
Make sure to water the plants thoroughly after planting to help the soil settle around the roots.

Watering:

The Private Jet™ Arborvitae thrives when the soil is kept consistently moist, particularly in the initial year following planting.
- It is important to water your plants deeply once or twice a week, taking into consideration the weather conditions and the moisture levels of the soil.
Be mindful of watering to prevent root rot. It is important to let the soil dry out a bit before watering again. In order to maintain optimal soil moisture, it is advisable to increase the frequency of watering during periods of high temperatures and drought.

Use our MOISTURE MAXX non-ionic wetting agent all year or during times of drought for extended help keeping your plants well hydrated for up to 40 days.

Fertilizing:

It is recommended to fertilize Private Jet™ Arborvitae in the spring before new growth starts and once more in late summer or early fall. Consider using a well-balanced, slow-release fertilizer like our HI-COTE 360 slow release that is specifically designed for evergreen shrubs. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer for the appropriate rates and methods of application. It is important to be mindful of fertilization, as it can lead to issues such as foliage burn and other complications.

Pruning:

Pruning is not necessary for Private Jet™ Arborvitae, as it naturally maintains a compact, pyramidal shape. It is recommended to prune gently during the late winter or early spring to eliminate any branches that are dead, damaged, or excessively grown. It is important to use sharp, clean pruning tools in order to make clean cuts and encourage healthy regrowth. It's best to steer clear of excessive pruning, as it may interfere with the shrub's inherent shape and result in a lack of foliage.

Mulching:

Add a layer of organic mulch, like shredded bark or compost, around the shrub's base. Mulch is incredibly beneficial for your garden. It plays a vital role in retaining soil moisture, preventing the growth of pesky weeds, and providing insulation to the roots, protecting them from extreme temperatures. Make sure to keep a layer of mulch that is 2-3 inches deep around your shrubs, extending it a few inches beyond the drip line.
- It is advisable to refrain from stacking mulch directly against the trunk, as this practice may encourage the development of rot and other diseases.
