Petite Red Knockout Rose | Rosa 'Meibenbino'

Petite Knockout Roses are a popular choice for gardeners seeking vibrant blooms in a compact size. The Meibenbino variety, with its petite double knockout roses, offers a stunning display of color perfect for small spaces. Understanding how tall petite knockout roses get is key to planning your garden layout. Typically, they reach a manageable height, making them ideal for container rose gardening. When it comes to planting, the double knockout planting guide suggests a sunny spot with well-draining soil. For healthy growth, follow the petite rose growth recommendations and provide regular petite rose care, including watering and fertilizing. With these knockout rose planting tips, your rose bush will thrive, adding beauty to your outdoor space.

Petite Red Knockout Rose is a dwarf variety of knockout rose that has all the charm of the original knockout roses with the addition of being able to fit anywhere in the landscape. It is low maintenance, disease resistant, and long blooming. It produces 1 ½ inch, deep red flowers that grow profusely throughout the plant. The perfect size for containers, this plant is excellent for small gardens, container gardens and patios. It is pollinator friendly and has a sweet fragrance.

Care

Like the full-size varieties of knockout roses, this dwarf version prefers full sun to partial shade, needing at least 6-8 hours of sun per day. Its small size makes it the perfect fit for containers. When planting in a container, choose a container twice as large as the container it came in. If planting in the ground, dig a hole slightly larger than the original container and twice as wide. Backfill the soil and water often until the plant is established.

If planting in mass, space plants 1 foot apart to allow for root development. Add slow-release fertilizer to help blooms flourish and refrain from feeding the plant late in the season to encourage dormancy. Make sure the soil is moist before adding fertilizer to avoid burning up the roots. Use a thin layer of mulch 2-3 inches thick to insulate the roots especially in colder climates.

Petite Red Knockout Rose has average water needs but suffers when watered overhead; water at the base of the plant. The best time to prune is late winter or early spring. Prune unwanted canes to provide good air circulation. Petite Red Knockout Rose is self-cleaning, so there is no need to deadhead.

Uses in the Landscape

Petite Red Knockout Rose grows in zones 4-9, is nontoxic and easy to maintain. It is a dwarf variety, making it an excellent choice for pots and containers. It attracts pollinators, especially butterflies. Its small size and prolific blooms make it perfect for small spaces, patios and container gardens. It is also stunning as an accent plant or along paths and borders.

Companion Plants

Butterfly Candie Buddleia makes a great companion for Petite Red Knockout Rose. It is small in size, growing 2-3 feet in height. It offers splashes of purple, pink, and white to contrast with the bold red of the Petite Red Knockout Rose. It is pollinator friendly and grows in similar climates.

Little Lime Hydrangea is a smaller hydrangea, growing 3-5 feet high. It makes a great companion, as it has lightly colored blooms and a small stature that won’t overpower. Like Petite Red Knockout Rose, it is a great choice for containers or around patios.

Amazing Daisies offer a clean white with a sunny yellow center to accent the deep red of the Petite Knockout Rose. They also grow low to the ground, reaching 12-24 inches in height and width. A perfect pairing planted in mass along with the knockout roses or around the patio, these beautiful perennials will add to the elegance that Petite Red Knockout Rose brings to the landscape.
