Southern Indica Family of Azaleas
Southern Tradition Plants ™ is our best selections of tried and true plants and trees that have become a staple landscape plant in zones 7-11.
There are many things in the South that are a staple in this area, awesome seafood, great country music, and Southern Indica Azaleas! Almost every homestead in the deep south has had an Indica Azalea planted in the landscape or does. One of my favorite memories as a child playing hide-and-go-seek was nestling down in a big ole Formosa bush, never being found. There has also been a many Mason Jars filled with Indica Azalea blooms that adorned dinner tables across the region in the spring. That’s what makes plants and trees so special, the memories that accompany them, whether a big ole Magnolia tree you could climb to the top or the breath-taking beauty of a southern tradition plant.
If you’re looking to fill a void or want to create an evergreen hedge that blooms during the spring, you need to take a hard look at Southern Indica Azaleas.
George L. Tabor | Rhododendron indica hybrid George L. Tabor
If Lavender or White isn’t your thing, we have a third option of excellence in the Indica family. George L. Tabor has such a distinct color pattern you might want one just because! A 3” orchid like pink flower with a darker pink flecked throat is a one-of-a-kind bicolor Azalea. Like its other counter parts, George L. Tabor has dark green leaves and a robust bloom cycle in the spring that covers more than all of the plant. George L. Tabor has great texture and will do well in most soils, if not too wet, and can tolerate some drought conditions. Use as a stand-alone specimen or cover unwanted areas with this super evergreen hedge plant.
