 Care

Nurturing an Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' is a gratifying experience, especially when armed with the right care techniques. Here are some guidelines to ensure your tree flourishes:

Location:

Choose a site that offers partial shade, particularly in regions with hot summers. This cultivar appreciates protection from the intense afternoon sun.

Soil:

Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Enrich the soil with organic matter and maintain a slightly moist environment to keep your tree healthy.

Watering:

Regular watering is crucial during the first few years after planting to establish a strong root system. Provide deep, thorough waterings, allowing the soil to dry slightly between sessions.

Fertilization:

Apply a balanced, SR-18-5-10 slow-release fertilizer in early spring to provide essential nutrients. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for optimal results.

Purchase our Slow Release fertilizer here SR-18-5-10.

Mulching:

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the tree to conserve moisture, suppress weed growth, and insulate the roots.

Pruning

Pruning Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' requires minimal effort but offers maximum rewards. Here's how to maintain its enchanting form:

  1. Timing: Prune during late winter or early spring when the tree is still dormant. This allows for better visibility of its structure.

  2. Objective: Focus on removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches to improve air circulation and enhance the tree's overall appearance. Remember to step back occasionally and assess the tree's shape.

  3. Technique: Use clean, sharp tools to make precise cuts. Avoid heavy pruning, as this may disrupt the tree's natural weeping habit.
