Coral Drift® Rose | Coral Drift® ‘Meidrifora’ PP 19,148 CPBR 4,871

Coral Drift Rose is a low maintenance plant that will add splashes of beautiful color to your garden. This gorgeous rose boasts elegant green foliage and is coveted for its orange coral hues. Growing 18-24 inches wide and 12-18 inches high, it is the perfect addition to smaller gardens.

It is an extremely hardy plant, growing in zones 4-11. It is deer, insect, and disease resistant and does not need yearly spraying like other rose varieties. It makes for a great ground cover plant to hide bare lower stems of shrubs, adding beautiful curb appeal.

Coral Drift Rose is a long blooming plant, flourishing from spring all the way to the first frost of fall, and sometimes even beyond. Pollinators love its semi-double blossoms. This rose is the answer to any gardener looking for an easy to maintain and grow rose and will add unique color to any gardening space.

Care

Plant Coral Drift Rose in fall for best results. Dig the hole a foot wider than the container it came in and a foot wider and space 3 feet apart. It prefers well drained soil and needs at least an inch of water each week. Remember to water deep at the roots and avoid watering the leaves during the summer, as it will make the shrub more susceptible to disease.

Fertilize each spring with a slow-release fertilizer and add a second application in the summer for best results. Mulch can be added each spring or fall as needed.  Add mulch 2-4 inches thick and avoid adding directly to the plant in order to protect roots and keep them moist.

Prune in the early spring each year after the last frost. Remove about six inches (approximately 1/3 of the plant's total size) back to a lateral branch to remove last year's growth. Remove any broken, injured, or crossing branches.

Uses in the Landscape

Coral Drift Rose's petite size and brilliant bloom color make it a must have for any garden. It is an excellent choice as a filler plant for flower beds or as an accent in containers. It makes a great choice as a groundcover for smaller shrubs and trees as well as a great companion for colorful perennials. Use it to line walkways or garden paths to spread beautiful hues of orange and pink throughout the garden.

Companion Plants

As a gorgeous ground cover plant, Coral Drift Rose is the perfect plant for any garden large or small. Pair it with flowers, shrubs and small trees, the pairings are endless for this double blooming orange and pink rose.

Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea makes for a great complimentary tree. Since this hydrangea only grows between 4 and 5 feet it won’t block the full sun that the Coral Drift Rose craves but will add a glowing pink background for it to grow around.

As a companion ground cover, the Clematis Olympia with its purple flowers and yellow anthers is a great vine to intertwine with the Coral Drift Rose. The stark contrast of the deep purple and bright orange hues create a breathtaking display! This Clematis can also be trained to climb a trellis behind the Coral Drift Rose either in a container or in the garden.

Weigela ‘Wine and Roses’ is the perfect backdrop for Coral Drift Rose. Weigela is slightly larger than the drift rose, and both work in unison to mask the leggy stems of taller plants, creating layers of striking beauty in place of bare branches. The bright magenta flowers and burgundy foliage compliments the orange and peach colors of Coral Drift Rose, creating a beautiful bouquet of blooms.
