Bayou Bliss® Distylium | Distylium BLDY01 Hybrid PP32816

Step into the realm of Bayou Bliss® Distylium, where classic elegance effortlessly combines with low maintenance. For those who love gardening or are new to the world of plants, this Southern beauty will surely enchant you with its allure and strength.

Bayou Bliss® Distylium offers year-round appeal with its colorful leaves and dainty flowers. With its glossy blue-green leaves, this plant brings an elegant touch to any garden, perfect for those with limited space. In the winter months, the foliage turns a deep burgundy color, bringing a vibrant touch to the garden during the colder season. When spring arrives, the branches are adorned with clusters of small, red blooms that attract pollinators and add a subtle yet enchanting touch to the scenery. Standing at a height and width of 3 to 4 feet, this adaptable shrub is ideal for borders, foundation plantings, or as a low hedge.

Bayou Bliss® Distylium is known for its effortless growth and long-lasting blooming period. This easy-to-care-for shrub flourishes in a range of soil types and environmental conditions, including sandy coastal areas and urban landscapes. Its ability to thrive in hot, humid, and dry conditions makes it a dependable option for gardens in the South. Moreover, the extended blooming period from late winter to early spring adds a burst of color and excitement during the dormant phase of other plants, guaranteeing continuous delight.

Caring for Bayou Bliss® Distylium is a piece of cake, making it an excellent option for gardeners of all levels. Here are some crucial tips to make sure your Distylium flourishes:

For optimal growth, select a spot with good drainage and plenty of sunlight. Prepare the hole by making it twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower. Make sure to gently loosen the roots before planting and backfill with soil, ensuring the plant sits level with the ground. Make sure to water the plants well after planting to help the soil settle.

Make sure to keep the soil consistently moist, particularly in the initial growing season. Once planted, Bayou Bliss® Distylium can withstand drought conditions but thrives with periodic deep watering in prolonged dry periods.

Adding organic mulch around the shrub's base helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and insulate the roots. Keep the mulch depth at 2-3 inches and make sure to keep it a few inches away from the base to avoid rot.

Pruning: Only a little trimming is needed to keep Bayou Bliss® Distylium looking neat and in the right size. It is recommended to prune during late winter or early spring to eliminate any dead or damaged branches and sculpt the shrub to your liking.

For optimal growth and blooming, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to Bayou Bliss® Distylium in early spring. Be cautious of too much nitrogen, as it may lead to an abundance of leaves rather than flowers.
