Salvia 'Pink Dawn' PP26343 CPBR5569 | Color Spires ® Collection | Perennial Salvia, also know as Garden Sage

'Pink Dawn' creates a cluster of large, cotton candy pink flowers that burst open from fuchsia buds on purplish stems from late spring to early summer. When compared to other pink Salvias, this particular one blooms for a longer period thanks to its well-branched flower stems.

Salvia is an essential addition to any sunny garden. All it requires is some sunshine and occasional watering to yield a vibrant display of colorful flower spikes from late spring to early summer. It creates a vertical cluster of fragrant, wrinkled green leaves that remain attractive throughout the entire season and are not appealing to rabbits or deer.

Planting Tips:

  • Choose a location with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade for optimal growth.
  • Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly deeper than the plant's container.
  • Gently remove the plant from its container, loosen the roots, and place it in the center of the hole.
  • Backfill with soil and water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.

Watering

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the plant's establishment period.
  • Once established, Salvia 'Pink Dawn' is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from regular watering during dry spells, especially in hot summer months.

Mulching

  • Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as compost or bark chips, around the base of the plant to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  • Keep the mulch a few inches away from the plant's stem to prevent rotting.

Pruning

  • Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.
  • In late winter or early spring, prune back any dead or leggy growth to promote new growth and enhance the plant's overall vigor.

Fertilizing Guidelines

  • Feed Salvia 'Pink Dawn' with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges.
  • Avoid over-fertilizing, as excessive nitrogen can result in lush foliage at the expense of blooms.
